"An adequate life . . . might be described as a life which has grasped intuitively the nature of all things, and has seen and refocused itself to this whole. An inadequate life is one that lacks this adjustment to the whole nature of things—hence its twisted perspective, its partiality, its confusion." Douglas V. Steere, describing the life of Thomas R. Kelly, in A Testament of Devotion.

Breaking News
The California Supreme Court overturned the gay marriage ban! Here is a link to the New York Times article about it and for those who like to read opinions, here is the full opinion. In other news, polar bears were just listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. It's a big day!

Here's what the World Wildlife Federation had to say about the bears: "The polar bear was listed due to the threat from climate change-induced loss of its sea ice habitat. Based on current ice models and projections for polar bear populations, experts believe that two-thirds of the world's polar bear population may be lost by 2050. While the Endangered Species Act listing is an important step forward, urgent additional action is needed by governments and societies to reduce our carbon footprint." It's too bad the Minerals Management Service recently opened up 30 million acres in Alaska’s Chukchi Sea (within prime polar bear habitat) to oil and gas exploration. Sorry for that rant, Ashley. I won't touch on overturning the gay marriage ban since I assume your readers are educated concerning things that do not suck.
ReplyDeleteI just edited my original post because I was under the impression that polar bears were listed as endangered, but they are actually listed as threatened. Here is more information from the Center for Biological Diversity:
